This collection features 25 significant articles by Professor Tang, addressing Confucianism, Buddhism, Daoism, Christianity, and Chinese culture. Through these writings, he establishes himself as a worthy heir to the Chinese philosophical tradition while engaging with contemporary thought both domestically and internationally. The late Professor Tang Yijie (1927-2014) was a distinguished professor at Peking University and a leading authority on philosophy and Chinese studies. He led the Confucian Canon project, aimed at compiling all classical works on Confucianism, a venture comparable in importance to the Complete Library of the Four Treasuries, the largest compilation of Chinese historical texts commissioned by the Qianlong Emperor in the 18th century. Over his lifetime, Professor Tang authored numerous books and over one hundred articles, providing valuable insights into enduring societal issues. Notably, he is remembered for his concept of “harmony in diversity.” In response to Samuel P. Huntington’s notion of “the clash of civilizations,” Tang advocated for this principle, suggesting it offers pathways for diverse peoples, nations, and regions to coexist and thrive while preserving their unique cultural identities.
