Haydn's D major cello concerto, composed in 1783 for Antonin Kraft, showcases a more relaxed style compared to his earlier work. Initially questioned in authenticity, it was validated by the discovery of the composer's manuscript in 1951. This concerto is notably more challenging for cellists than Haydn's earlier C major concerto. The score presented is a reduced-format version of Clark McAlister's 2010 performing edition, with larger conductor scores and orchestral parts also available for purchase.
