Set in 306 BC, the story follows the independent polis of Rhodes as it navigates alliances amidst the power struggles of Alexander the Great's former marshals. When Demetrios seeks support against Ptolemaios, the Rhodians refuse, prompting Menedemos and Sostratos to travel to Egypt with crucial news. Their journey leads them to Alexandria and Memphis, but they are reluctantly drawn into a significant naval conflict as Ptolemaios enlists their ship, the Aphrodite, for his military campaign against Demetrios.
