The Selamb siblings navigate the aftermath of their mother's death and their father's incapacitation, leading to a struggle for independence under the watch of a guardian and estate manager. Each sibling deals with their upbringing's emotional scars in unique ways while trying to establish their identities in late 19th-century bourgeois Swedish society. However, they find it challenging to break free from the family's ingrained traits of selfishness and a relentless pursuit of wealth, often at the expense of their morals.
