Set in the 1960s, the story follows 17-year-old Melinda as she escapes her abusive home and moves to San Francisco. There, she encounters the charming Henry and joins him at a desert commune that initially offers freedom through sex and drugs. However, the atmosphere shifts dramatically as the commune's violent tendencies emerge, targeting the wealthy and powerful, forcing Melinda to confront her own morals and the dangerous reality of her new life.
