While traveling in France, Carrie Mitchell meets a boy, Jacques, who changes her life. While sightseeing, Jacques goes missing and Carrie is thrown into an intrigue that dates back to World War II. She is dangerously caught up with Jacques's father, the Comte de Merle, and his family. Carrie finds that she has strength she didn't know she possessed as she tries to navigate the mysterious past of the Nazi occupation of the de Merle chateau to find the missing boy. What she finds is betrayal, Nazi collaboration, and her own personal resolve.
