Jacob, an American secret agent, and Carla, a Filipina, fall in love in Manila before the Japanese attack the Philippines. After Corregidor, they travel to Mindanao to join other Filipino-American guerrilla partisans fighting behind Japanese lines. When Jacob is captured by the Japanese and taken to Manila, it is Carla who must fight for his freedom and face the devastation of the Manila Massacre alone.
