In this, the second of her adventures in the Yorkshire Dales, Jill becomes intrigued by an old painting. Who was the beautiful young woman so lovingly portrayed? And why did Malcolm's Great Uncle Tom go off to Australia so soon after creating it? It is Jill's first Christmas in Roxdale and, although she had planned to be with her parents in London for the holidays, the way things turn out, she is glad she couldn't go.
