A long-buried secret seeks out an orphan who has grown to find love and happiness. Middle-aged with daughters in the throes of life decisions, the protagonist learns that her actual father was a Nazi officer stationed in Jersey (Channel Islands) and that her mother was a Jersey girl who waited for him after the war. She learns that she was ransomed to allow them to escape by the person she thought was her mother. Family relationships and life's relentless forward progression seeks a way to reconcile all of the parties with their pasts.
