I didn't ever want to care about another human being again. It hurt too much; left me feeling too empty, too worthless. And so I decided for a second time that I was going to try to play the indifferent game. I was too late though . . . By the time I'd decided, I'd already been affected in ways I hadn't even realized. The virus had taken hold of me, mutating my identity and inner thoughts until they had transformed to almost complete self-abhorrence.
