This is a book about boys, very special boys -- the talented youngsters from the famous Boys' Choir of Moscow. It tells of the way they are introduced to music at Moscow's Choir School and how they choose their various paths in life as they grow up. This book also gives us a picture of a composer's gradual awakening and shows how musical gifts come into their own. It is also a story about Moscow, since that is the city where the boys live and study, where they give their concerts, where they first come in contact with adult life and experience their first failures and triumphs. It is Moscow's streets and squares and buildings imbued with history that provide the poignant story's framework.
