Providence

Anita Brookner, a British author and art historian, was born in 1928 to Polish immigrants. She had a distinguished career at the Courtauld Institute of Art before turning to writing, debuting with her novel in 1981. Over her literary career, she published 24 novels, including the Booker Prize-winning Hotel du Lac in 1984. In addition to her fiction, Brookner is known for her insightful volumes of art criticism, blending her expertise in art with her narrative style.
