Originally published in 2005, Metropolis Vienna, like Heimito von Doderer's great novel The Demons (Sun & Moon Books, 1993) before it, follows several individuals in Vienna as their stories interlink with each other. But unlike von Doderer's work, which focuses on the events leading up to WWII, Rosei's novel concerns the beautiful Austrian city in the second half of the 20th century. A profound and moving novel that introduces one of the great Austrian writers to an English-speaking audience.
