For over fifty years, Norman Parkinson was a prominent figure in fashion and portrait photography, gaining recognition in Europe and America. Parkinson began his career in the 1930s Modernist movement, pioneering fashion photography with dynamic images for *Harper's Bazaar*. By the early 1960s, as he approached fifty, his vibrant interpretation of the London scene for *Queen* contrasted sharply with his contemporaries like Batley, Avedon, and Newton. He continued contributing to *Vogue* until 1978, when a shift to *Town & Country* in the US revitalized his career, bolstered by his celebrated portraits of notable figures, including the Royal Family. This book selectively showcases photographs of distinct quality, both familiar and lesser-known, contextualizing his work within the historical and photographic landscape of each era.
