With the publication, in the July 1941 issue of Astounding Science Fiction magazine, of the story Seesaw, van Vogt began unfolding the complex tale of the oppressive Empire of Isher and the mysterious Weapon Shops. This volume, The Weapon Shops of Isher, includes the first three parts of the saga and introduces perhaps the most famous political slogan of science fiction: The Right to Buy Weapons is the Right to Be Free. Born at the height of Nazi conquest, the Isher stories suggested that an oppressive government could never completely subjugate its own citizens if they were well armed. The audience appeal was immediate and has endured long beyond other stories of alien invasion, global conflict and post war nuclear angst.

Norman Niblock House is a rising executive at General Technics, one of a few all-powerful corporations. His work is leading General Technics to the forefront of global domination, both in the marketplace and politically---it's about to take over a country in Africa. Donald Hogan is his roommate, a seemingly sheepish bookworm. But Hogan is a spy, and he's about to discover a breakthrough in genetic engineering that will change the world...and kill him. These two men's lives weave through one of science fiction's most praised novels. Written in a way that echoes John Dos Passos' U.S.A. Trilogy, "Stand on Zanzibar "is a cross-section of a world overpopulated by the billions. Where society is squeezed into hive-living madness by god-like mega computers, mass-marketed psychedelic drugs, and mundane uses of genetic engineering. Though written in 1968, it speaks of 2010, and is frighteningly prescient and intensely powerful. This edition comes with a tipped in collectors' note and an introduction by David Brin.

A haunting story of power and love--a tale of the man who would destroy everything he loves to preserve humanity's peace, and the boy who might just sing the world away.

Contains three novels in Dutch translation: The Languages of Pao / Big Planet / The Dragon Masters. In "De Talen van Pao," Beran Panasper, the crown prince of Pao, is kidnapped by the enigmatic Paravos, a dominion on the world of Breeknes. While studying there for several years, he and his captors analyze Pao and its singular language. Upon his eventual escape, Beran discovers that Pao has drastically changed, now home to three new languages, reflecting his own transformation during captivity. "Grote Planeet" is set 500 years later, where the vast planet has become populated by numerous groups of Earthlings. A commission is sent from Earth to assess the threat posed by Bajarnum of Beaujolais, a local ruler expanding his territory. However, the commission crashes 40,000 miles from the only civilized area, the Earth enclave. This leads to a perilous journey through unknown lands, where the group faces terrifying monsters and bizarre inhabitants. In "De Drakenruiters," every few centuries, the malevolent star Coralyne appears in the sky of Aerlith, bringing with it the chilling Grondvormen that abduct humans. A few captured Grondvormen are transformed by the residents into a formidable army of dragons, including fearsome Hellevegen and deadly Schrijdende Moordenaars. When the Grondvormen return, they confront their monstrous, twisted descendants—the dragons. This work is a recipient of the Hugo Award.
