    Mozes ben Maimon, bekend als Maimonides, was een vooraanstaande middeleeuwse joodse filosoof, Tora-geleerde en arts. Zijn werk duikt diep in filosofische en religieuze teksten, waarbij hij mystiek vermeed en poëzie bekritiseerde als zuivere verzinsels. Ondanks een leven getekend door onrust en ballingschap, voltooide Maimonides zijn baanbrekende werken onder moeilijke omstandigheden. Hij was niet alleen een diepzinnige denker, maar ook een gerenommeerd arts die zelfs vorsten diende.
