Laurenz Berges’ past eras consists of three high-quality booklets in a concertina fold, released for the exhibition "Witterungen" featuring Laurenz Berges, Michael Collins, and Paola De Pietri. The photographic series explore subtle, progressive changes in landscapes and living environments. Berges focuses on the industrial Ruhr region, capturing places and remnants that reveal signs of past eras. Collins presents nearly identical panoramic seascapes of wind-shaped marshlands, with distant industrial complexes, alongside interiors and close-ups of steel works and power stations. De Pietri’s series highlights impressive trees, each photographed in black-and-white, standing alone in the landscape, showcasing their unique forms and branches. Together, these three perspectives create a dialogue on both circumstantial and timeless realities, illustrating gradual transformations and specific aesthetics. The elaborate compositions evoke discomfort stemming from the tension between urbanity and nature, as well as the ambivalence of "unused" areas, either reclaimed by nature or repurposed by humans. The exhibition took place at Die Photographische Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur in Köln from February 3 to July 8, 2018.
