This textbook serves as an introduction to global optimization, presenting mathematical concepts rigorously while providing detailed motivation and illustrations through 80 figures. It targets not only mathematicians but also natural scientists, engineers, and economists seeking to apply mathematically sound methods in their fields. Spanning nearly two hundred pages, it offers ample material for various lecture designs on global optimization. The book emphasizes the global solvability of optimization problems under practical conditions, enhancing the existing literature on the subject. By leveraging the theory and algorithms of smooth convex optimization, it demonstrates the efficient attainment of global solutions for commonly encountered optimization problems. For more complex non-convex issues, it thoroughly develops branch-and-bound methods. This work is the English translation of the 2nd edition of “Grundzüge der Globalen Optimierung” (Springer, 2021) originally written in German. The translation utilized artificial intelligence, followed by a revision from the author to refine the content and ensure scientific accuracy. As a result, the text may exhibit stylistic differences from typical translations.
