Meer over het boek
In seventeenth-century Poland, Jacob, a young Talmudic scholar, is sold into slavery following the Chmielnicki massacres. He falls deeply in love with his master's daughter, Wanda. After being ransomed, Jacob cannot bear to live without her, leading them to escape to a distant Jewish community. However, their love is complicated by Jacob's guilt over marrying a non-Jew and the challenges of concealing Wanda's identity amidst the violent backdrop of their time, testing their bond and resilience.
