It is a ruthlessly comic epic that's a cross between farce and folk-lore and which laughingly lays into the self-satisfied legends of manliness, brotherhood and community upon which generations of Americans have been raised. And, of course, it debunks–once and for all–the grandiose legend of the 'great American novel' itself.
