Geometric calculus is a system that operates on geometric entities, allowing for the expression of geometric results in formulas and the representation of geometric propositions with equations. Unlike analytic geometry, it focuses on the entities themselves rather than the numbers defining them. Historical contributions include Leibniz's early attempts and later developments by Mobius, Bellavitis, Hamilton, and Grassmann. While Grassmann's Ausdehnungslehre is comprehensive and powerful, its complexity has hindered its widespread acceptance and appreciation among mathematicians.
